NEW MUSIC PROGRAM FOR JR AND SR HIGHS
We are VERY excited to welcome Ted Gibson
as our new “Music Man” for the ROCK singers AND our junior and senior
highs. Ted will be bringing his guitar, musicianship and charismatic
personality to the first twenty minutes of the junior/senior high Sunday School
time. It will be wonderful to have a music program that serves all
ages. We look forward to enjoying our youth with Ted’s energetic and
compelling leadership.
WELCOME TO NEW AND RETURNING UPC MUSICIANS
I am looking forward to a new and
exciting year of music making at UPC. We have wonderful music selected
for our first worship theme, Peacemaking. Three of the pieces have great
percussion parts and one has a beautiful hand bell accompaniment. WE NEED
YOU to play hand bells or one of these percussion parts: African drums,
Shakers, Rainstick, Crickets, Frog Guiros. There will be percussion
rehearsals so don’t worry.
The UPC Music Program offers leadership in praise and thanksgiving
to God through the sounds of voice and instrument. Music is a
corporate expression of the many talents God has given to each of us;
talents that we use to proclaim God’s word of grace, love and
justice.
The UPC Music Program has several choir opportunities:
Sunshine Choir is for UPC's youngest musicians, ages 3
through grade one. Children are exposed to music through singing, movement and
playing instruments.
ROCKsong is composed of children in grades K-5. It
is part of our ROCK (Really Outstanding Christian Kids) program on Wednesday
afternoons and meets from 5:30-6:00.
Chancel Choir sings for regular morning worship and for
special worship and church events. Practice is on Wednesday evenings from
7:15-8:45. Every December we celebrate the holidays with our annual
Christmas Dessert Concert.
Handbell Choir plays once a month in worship and at special
church events. Practice is on Wednesdays from 6:15-7:15.
Instrumentalists from our congregation and the community
grace us with their music and enhance our worship.
Goals
1.
To lead the congregation in its worship of God through music seeking the
highest standards which are achievable and employing a variety of forms, styles
and media in order to meet the diverse needs of the membership
2.
To offer a variety of means through which church members can develop
music skills, learn the great music of the church and express their faith
through the medium of music.
3.
To invite the greater community into the church by presenting quality
music programs open to the public
4.
To reach out to ASU through the involvement of students in the music
program of the church.
