Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions to help you figure out what to expect when you join us on Sunday mornings. Hope they help! If you have other questions, please call us or use our Contact Page, and we’ll be happy to help.

Where do we go?

The sanctuary is straight ahead on the right as you walk from the parking lot. You can also park on E. Alameda—then the sanctuary will be the most easterly building closest to the street, though the doors face south.

Our Fellowship Time after worship is held right on the patio outside the sanctuary.

Classrooms and the nursery are across the courtyard from the sanctuary, with the Meeting Room (where many of our adult forums and church school classes occur) out the sanctuary, to the right, and all the way down the walkway, to the left of the wrought iron gate.

Some classes are held in the Conference Room, Resource Center, or Pastor’s Study, which is in the office, immediately to the left as you walk from the parking lot.

What about the worship service?

We welcome everyone into our 9:30 a.m. worship service in the sanctuary. Our service an interesting mix of traditional and contemporary, blending a traditionally Reformed order of worship with various styles of music, Biblically based preaching, and sharing in various styles of prayer. Our hope is that the worship is the work of the people, and not just those leading the service. People are welcome to engage at what ever level is comfortable, or sit back and just see what might happen.

We share in Holy Communion the first Sunday of each month, and practice an open table—any who come are welcome to share in the meal Jesus has prepared for us and leads us into. On the second Sunday of each month, our youth help lead the service, from ushers to liturgists. On various Sundays we have special music, from brass quartets, to a wind ensembles, to our wonderful bell choir.

Is there childcare?

Yes, both during the worship service and during Church School following, though we hope our younger children (infants to 1st graders) will be where they and their parents are most comfortable, whether that is with their parents in the service or being cared for either in the nursery for infants through 1st graders. Our nursery is located across from the sanctuary, and all the way to the right. Children may be taken there before service or after the Time With Children.

Is there coffee?

Absolutely! After the worship service, coffee is served right outside the sanctuary and immediately to the right. We proudly serve Just Coffee, which comes from a cooperative of growers and roasters in Mexico.

Do you have classes for my kids?

From the Sunday after Labor Day in September through mid-May we offer Church School classes for children, youth, and adults at 11:00 a.m., the hour after the worship service. The nursery is open for children under 3 during Church School.

What do I do while my kids are in Sunday School? (Or I don’t have kids?)

We strongly urge adults to participate in our adult classes which range in topic, depth, and longevity (typically 3-6 weeks). Classes are announced in our weekly bulletin and in our weekly announcements that are emailed to the congregation each Thursday (sign up for our weekly E-Announcements here).

How do people dress?

During the summer, most people come in shorts, skirts, casual shirts, and comfortable shoes. Our sanctuary is air conditioned, so you may want to wear layers. At any time of year you will see people in everything from shorts to sports coats; from jeans to skirts and dresses. Come as you are comfortable.
